300: Battle of Artemisium (Rise of An Empire)

Finally the, prequel/sequel (both at the same time) to 300 is in production.  It's going to feature Themistocles, an Athenian general battling it out with Xerxes on other fronts.  And it will feature several battles and span over ten years.

Sullivan plays Themistocles - the "new Leonidas"
But the important part: Word on the street is that the actor playing General Themistocles - Sullivan Stapleton - has already been training with Gym Jones trainer Michael Blevins.

Will there be a "Battle of Artemisium" workout?  Time will tell.

In the meantime, just for old times sake, give "300" another spin this week:

  • Pullups - 25 reps
  • Barbell Deadlift with 135 lbs. - 50 reps
  • Pushups - 50 reps
  • 24-inch Box Jumps - 50 reps
  • Floor Wipers - 50 reps
  • Single-Arm Clean-and-Press with 36 lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps
  • Pullups - 25 reps

Regardless of if we get a new "title" workout, we know that Gym Jones is going to bring the old school, hard-core, suffering=salvation kinds of workouts that they are known for.

Lots of tire flipping, kettlebell swings, kettlebell rack holds, kettlebell farmer's carrys, barbell deadlifts, single leg deadlifts, pushups, push presses, snatches, overhead squats, ball slams, ball throws, sprints, longer more endurance style workouts....   everything cool and great.

Can't wait!

So far - the movie upsides: Has multiple major battles.  Themistocles was a military genius, and considered the savior of all Greece, until they kicked him out of Greece.  Another cool bonus: the "final battle" happened on the same day as the final battle in "300"

Possible movie downsides: At first look, Leonidas is a cooler sounding name than Themistocles.  But I'm sure after Themistocles kicks someone off of a cliff or something shouting his name, it will sound way more awesome.

I'll keep you posted.

[Edit: it's no longer called 300: Battle of Artemesium, it's now called 300: The Rise of An Empire]
